ME-3® is a specific lactic acid bacteria strain (Limosilactobacillus fermentum ME-3®), isolated in 1995 at the University of Tartu, Estonia.
What sets ME-3® apart from a more common probiotic is the type of published work on this strain over more than 30 years.
Beyond digestive comfort, it has mainly been studied for its links with three complementary areas:
- intestinal balance
- oxidative balance
- metabolic balance
In the literature, some work has also focused on markers related to lipid oxidation, notably LDL oxidation.
In other words, research on this strain is not limited to digestion. It also addresses broader mechanisms related to oxidative stress and metabolic “terrain”, while keeping the gut as the starting point.
This orientation explains why ME-3® is often presented as a reference strain within a more global approach, and not only as a ferment aimed at digestive comfort.
