SILICON, A NATURALLY OCCURRING ELEMENT IN THE BODY

Silicon is naturally present in our diet and in the body. It is found particularly in the skin, hair, nails, bones and cartilage.

The main dietary sources of silicon include whole grains such as oats, barley and brown rice, certain fruits such as raisins and dates, certain vegetables such as green beans, as well as some mineral waters. A highly refined or poorly varied diet may provide less silicon. With age, both dietary silicon intake and silicon concentrations in the body may also decrease.

Silicon therefore deserves particular attention when looking to complement the diet. However, not all sources are equivalent. The amount shown on the label alone is not enough to determine the quality of a supplement.

The form in which silicon is provided plays an important role in its availability. Choosing a good silicon supplement therefore also means choosing a suitable form that is readily available to the body.

ORTHOSILICIC ACID, A SOLUBLE FORM OF SILICON

In nature, silicon from rocks and minerals gradually enters water in the form of orthosilicic acid.

Orthosilicic acid has an important characteristic. It is a simple, monomeric and directly available form of silicon. Unlike certain more complex forms of silica, orthosilicic acid is already present in a form available for absorption.

This difference matters because not all sources of silicon have the same bioavailability. A high silicon content alone does not guarantee a high-quality source. The form in which silicon is present also plays a key role.

However, orthosilicic acid is naturally unstable when concentrated and can gradually combine into more complex structures. Silicium Fit therefore uses stabilised orthosilicic acid to preserve this readily available form in a liquid formulation.

Silicium Fit therefore focuses on the quality of the silicon form provided, rather than on silicon quantity alone.
