The Original Pomelo

Did you know that the fruit commonly referred to as “pamplemousse” in Switzerland is actually a grapefruit (Citrus paradisi)?

It is a natural hybrid resulting from a cross between the sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) and the original pomelo (Citrus maxima), also known as Citrus grandis.

Native to Asia, Citrus grandis is distinguished by its particularly large fruit, which can reach nearly 30 cm in diameter, its thick rind, pronounced membranes, numerous seeds, and a generally more intense and bitter flavour profile.

Of particular interest are its seeds and pericarp, which naturally contain bioflavonoids such as naringin, naringenin and hesperidin — compounds that have been extensively studied in phytochemistry.

Bioflavonoids

Bioflavonoids are not evenly distributed throughout the fruit. Studies show that the outer parts of the fruit are particularly rich in flavonoids, with concentrations that can be significantly higher than those measured in the juice or pulp.

This explains the particular interest in the pericarp, a part of the fruit that is rarely consumed but is especially interesting from a phytochemical perspective.

In in vitro tests, extracts of Citrus maxima have shown the ability to slow the growth of several bacterial strains studied.

Directions for Use

Internal use
Dilute 10 to 15 drops in a glass of water, up to 3 times a day.

External use
Dilute 5 to 10 drops in 1 dl of water and pour the preparation into a small spray bottle for convenient use on the go.

Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes. In case of contact with the eyes, rinse thoroughly under running water.
